La Orquidea Golf Society, August 2010.
In sweltering degree sunshine, La Orquidea Golf Society played La Siesta Golf Course. Despite an early start, the heat took it’s toll with the players playing in temperatures above 36 degrees (of course, this didn’t affect anyone’s game, such is their professionalism).
Having completed the 18 holes, the group cam back to the bar to enjoy burger and chips with fried onions on the terrace. A free jug of beer was provided by the bar to quench the thirst of a sizzling day’s golf.
The group then proceeded to discuss the finer points of the round they had played.
Unusually for La Orquidea Golf Society, there was no real ‘hot of the day’, but more than enough ‘could-haves’.
The Hamlet Shot of the Day goes to Ricky, who on the 7th, drove clear to the green, then rolled into the bunker. Having had numerous shots in the bunker, in which the ball decided to stay, he conceded the hole. Poor boy.
| Position | Player | Handicap | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ricky | 22 | 32 |

| 3 | Glen | 28 | 19 |
| 4 | Shawn | 18 | 16 |

The trophy being played for was donated by Shaun and is the cause of great debate as numerous golfers desire to have their name on it.
The winner today will proudly be the first name on the trophy.
Modern diamond-shaped trophies which the winners keep, were awarded to the winner and nearest the pin.
Bottles of wine were also awarded to the winner and second place.
A course cap was the booby prize, for the lowest score of the day.
We’ve got six regulars confirmed for the next Golf Society meeting next Wednesday – the 16th of September.
We’re going back to La Siesta for two rounds.

- Winner, ‘Irish’ Joe, with a score of 44.
This months winner was ‘Irish’ Joe, playing on his home course, with a fab score of 44.
Not wanting to be left out, in 2nd place was Jane Sax, the only lady player this meeting (come on girls!!!).
The prizes included a Hand Crafted winners trophy, and bottles of wine.
The youngest player Courteny ‘Kid’ Ravenscroft, won Longest Drive with Geoff (too close to call!).
Nearest Pin was won by ‘Father’ Don and keeping the ladies end up, Jane Sax.
On a hotter than normal July day, the players enjoyed the cold water & beer provided to go round the course with, returning to the bar for a few more ice cold beers and a bite to eat.
Each player had there own stoy of ‘If only’ (as usual). Some of the best included;
‘My 18 feet put missed by 2 inches, would of been a Birdie.’
‘The wind held me back from longest drive.’
‘The bunker got in the way.’
Trick shots where also there as usual, Ricky hit the same Pylon 3 times on successive shots (that deserves a prize in itself).
‘The Les’ parked his ball behind a tree on a 1 in 10 graded slop (hill), so no points there then!

Second, representing the ladies, Jane Sax.
